Elbow > Tendinitis

What is Tendinitis?

Tendinitis is an inflammation of a tendon. It is common in athletes who overuse a particular joint. The knee, shoulder, and elbow tend to suffer tendinitis because they are continually stressed during sports. Tendinitis in the knee often develops in cyclists and runners. Runners may also develop Achilles tendinitis, which is tendinitis above the heel. Tendinitis in the shoulder is common in golf players, swimmers, and baseball pitchers. Tennis and baseball players are inclined to get tennis elbow or thrower¹s elbow (tendinitis of the elbow). Golfers can also be affected.

Treatment

If you get tendinitis, consult your doctor. With severe or chronic conditions, you should see your doctor as soon as you can. An ankle support provides both support and heat retention to the medial and lateral sides of the ankle. An elbow brace is good for tennis elbow.

Prevention

You can help prevent injury by stretching and strengthening the muscles, ligaments, and tendons around the respective joints. Do not forget to warm up before activities. As with any overuse injury, moderate the exercise and activity you perform. Certain knee and elbow braces will add support. Wear shoes with good support. Use tape or ankle supports before playing sports, especially if you have been previously injured.
